We’re putting the final touches on our plans for Devtoberfest. The sessions are posted, the contest details are confirmed, and we’ve even scheduled some fun. To get the most out of Devtoberfest, start making plans.

Make sure you’re part of the Devtoberfest group

Devtoberfest has a new home this year: the SAP Community Groups. You register for Devtoberfest by joining the Devtoberfest group.  To do that, visit the SAP Community Groups page.  Check the upper right corner for the silhouette icon to make sure you are signed in.

To join the Devtoberfest group, click on “Groups” and scroll down to “Devtoberfest.”  Once you’re in, feel free to join the conversation.

Review the session content and the schedule

Once you’re in the Devtoberfest group, it’s easy to view all of the session content. As in the screenshot below, click on SAP Events at the top and scroll down to Devtoberfest events.

We heard that you wanted shorter sessions and more flexibility this year, so we organized our five topics in a new way. We will focus on one topic per day, and then repeat that structure each week. It will look like this:

  • Mondays: ABAP

  • Tuesdays: User Interface

  • Wednesdays: Data and Analytics

  • Thursdays: Low Code and No Code Tooling

  • Fridays: Cloud Native Development

Pro tip: On the Devtoberfest Events page, select the calendar view on the top right. When you look at the month of October, you’ll see all of the sessions neatly color-coded by day and by topic.

Register for live sessions

It’s easy to register for live sessions and add them to your calendar. Live sessions are a great way to interact with the speaker and ask questions.  Alternatively, if you can’t make it to the live session, you can always access the content on demand via YouTube.

These sessions already have a lot of registrants:

Make time to earn points and win prizes

This year’s contest will give you a chance to earn points from a variety of different activities. If you participated last year, you’ll recognize the format.

We have badges, beanie caps, stadium scarves, and digital images. We also have an amazing grand prize this year. It’s an all-expense paid trip to SAP’s Newport Beach office in California to meet with SAP leaders, product experts and a VIP experience at one of SAP’s major customers that just so happens to also be one of the most magical places on earth. This grand prize includes:

  • Economy round-trip airfare during event-specific dates

  • Single Occupancy Hotel Room during event-specific dates

  • Airport transfer fees to and from major gateway airports during event-specific dates

  • Meals during event-specific dates

  • Theme Park ticket, meals, and transportation on a specific date

Points are awarded for things like attending one of the educational sessions, completing certain developer tutorials tied to the topic weeks, or other activities that contribute to the SAP Developer Community. Prizes are awarded based upon SAP Community badges earned and you must have a public Community profile to participate.  We have a contest details document to tell you all about it.

To help you track your progress through the contest, we brought back the animated Contest Gameboard.  Just add your SAP Community Profile ID to the end of the following URL here.

And if you are curious about how we built the animated gameboard, we have also released the whole thing as a Sample Code repository here.

Don’t miss Petoberfest

#Petoberfoest is one of many Fun Friday activities we have planned. Keep up with the details here.

Last year, our Fun Friday activities taught us a couple of things. First, more people participate when participation can happen any time, not just when we schedule it. Second, although Dogtoberfest was a huge hit, there are all sorts of pet owners who want to post pictures, too.

So this year, #Petoberfest is your opportunity to post pictures of your pets with you in a work, coding, or general office setting.  We will ask that you post these in the SAP Community Groups or in social media with the hash tag: #petoberfest, so the community can easily find all the content.

See you at Devtoberfest.
