Welcome to "Knowledge Sharing Across the Globe," a blog post series dedicated to unraveling insights into the SAP AppHaus Network enterprise architecture (EA) community. In this series, we embark on a journey of discovery, exploring how this community serves as a hub of innovation, collaboration, and knowledge exchange.

Part 3: The Boost of GenAI for the SAP AppHaus Network EA Community

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is revolutionizing the way organizations approach architectural planning, optimization, and execution. As enterprises strive to optimize their operations, enhance decision-making processes, and adapt to dynamic market conditions, the emergence of GenAI presents an opportunity for broader transformation. From automating mundane tasks to enabling data-driven insights, GenAI is poised to redefine the future of enterprise architecture, empowering organizations to navigate complexities and unlock new avenues of growth and innovation. In this article, we delve into the impact of GenAI on the SAP AppHaus Network enterprise architecture (EA) community, exploring its potential to drive efficiency, creativity, and agility in architectural endeavors of the different partners.

Peter, can you provide an overview of how GenAI is currently being utilized within the enterprise architecture community?

Sure, just to name a few:

  • We saw first prototypes using embeddings and vectors to rely on custom-specific documents,
  • AI chat bots boosting their capabilities with Large Language Models, briefly LLMs,
  • the GenAI Mail Insights application which serves now as SAP GenAI reference architecture (leveraging the generative AI hub in SAP AI Core as well as the SAP HANA Cloud vector engine),
  • LLMs powering/enhancing Qualtrics questionnaires,
  • a GenAI-powered sales app to be released in SAP Store soon, which uses the complete SAP Build portfolio applying GenAI-Hub and the SAP HANA Cloud Vector Engine to automatically create purchase orders in SAP S/4HANA based on embedded product catalogues, and much more.

Can you share examples of successful implementations of GenAI by SAP AppHaus Network?

While the benefits of GenAI are widely recognized, the SAP AppHaus Network has some examples of successful GenAI implementations within some partner and customer organizations. By examining real-world instances of GenAI application, we can gain valuable insights into the transformative potential of this technology and its impact on organizations and their operations.

SAP AppHaus Network customer Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD): The SAP AppHaus team and SAP partner Deloitte supported AMD’s project with solving supply chain hurdles with Generative AI on SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). AMD’s migration to SAP S/4HANA enhanced their supply chain operations and order fulfillment capabilities. This collaboration resulted in the development of a new solution powered by GenAI leading to faster response times for inquiries. Read more.

sovanta AppHaus Hamburg: SAP AppHaus Network partner sovanta illustrated how ChatGPT automates the creation of follow-up surveys on SAP BTP. They’ve shown that ChatGPT can understand and interpret open-ended answers, and thereby assist with the analysis of qualitative data and the definition of further questions based on that data. Therefore, integrating ChatGPT into experience management surveys can improve the overall intelligence and effectiveness of these surveys. The solution is available in the SAP Discovery Center. Read more.

EPI-USE AppHaus Pretoria: SAP AppHaus Network partner EPI-USE developed the solution “ChatterBox” within an SAP Hack2Build event in South Africa. The challenge was all about the advantages of SAP Build to automate visually, integrate seamlessly, and collaborate securely. The team developed a chatbot interface where a user can write prompts in natural language. Read more.

How do you see the future evolution of GenAI impacting the enterprise architecture landscape?

GenAI has definitely the potential to significantly alter the enterprise architecture landscape in many ways. GenAI is also expected to integrate seamlessly with enterprise architecture as a proficiency, by enabling e.g. enhanced automation, improved decision-making capabilities, savings in time and resources, and stronger resilience to evolving business challenges. However, ethical, legal, and data privacy aspects need to be carefully considered as AI continues to interweave with our daily lives. Also, EA-Tools (SAP Signavio, LeanIX) are currently infused by and make use of GenAI.

What advice would you give to enterprise architects considering the adoption of GenAI technologies in their organizations?

They need to reconceptualize the importance of value over the mindset that prioritizes features and functions in a product. The perspective to simply equate the worth of a product to its features and functions, is not sustainable in the age of AI. Customers are only willing to pay a higher cost if they understand the additional value that AI provides, how it enhances efficiency, and how it can elevate their profit margin.
