Pay statement visibility for former employees

Hello,

We are exploring on how we can safely enable the visibility for our former employees to view their last pay statements. Does anyone have a KBA they can share ? Also if anyone has the same requirements implemented on their SF system, can you share the best practice and any learning curve you experienced?

As former employees are no longer in the company and they do not have access to the portal they wont be able to access EC Pay Statement Mashup. 
As far as I know there is no KBA mentioning such scenario. 
I guess that a ESS portal with just the pay statement and provide such employees a user active linked to the terminated employee may fulfil your requirement but this is much investment.  
My suggestion this case is to have a termination process that executes in the background a custom program to send the pay statement with password to former employee via email. As it will be a custom program it can itself choose employees terminated just during last payroll period so PERNR choosing may be automatic.
