Public Services organizations are currently addressing new challenges and needs which require the use of integrated and intelligent systems that will help them drive better forward-looking decisions while acting on real-time data.

There is an increased need for data-driven decision-making. Maintaining personnel expenses within budget and providing transparency on how personnel costs are being financed is a key driver of their performance.

The First Half 2022 Release for SAP SuccessFactors includes important innovations relevant for all regulated industries. With these enhancements in SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central, customers will be able to act on real-time integrated financial data that will help them drive their operations more efficiently and fulfill their obligations.

Let’s take a look at some of these key highlights.

Support for WBS Element cost object in SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central

When the industry feature ‘Enable PSM Cost Objects Assignment’ is provisioned, customers will now be able to activate the use of the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) element in the employee and position cost assignment, as well as in the ‘Pay Component Non-Recurring’ entity.

Customers need to ensure employee costs or expenses are assigned to the right financing sources. With this enhanced feature you can now distribute these costs using a percentage split and allocate them to a cost center or WBS element financed by a fund or a grant.

Users will now be able to define a WBS element as a standard field using the Project Controlling Object entity in SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central. The WBS element is commonly used to define where the position or employee’s costs should be allocated to. Together with other cost objects, the WBS element helps define how a position or employee is financed. With this new feature, it will now be possible to validate and define in real-time a combination of different cost objects including the fund, grant, functional area and WBS element.

Additionally, the integration of SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central with SAP S/4HANA for public sector management allows customers to derive financial master data and validate the account assignments. For instance, users will get a real-time error message when a fund, grant or a WBS element is invalid or expired.

Admin Alerts for Position Cost Assignments

In addition to the already delivered admin alerts that help HR administrators identify and resolve relevant HR data inconsistencies, in the first half 2022 release we have delivered one additional alert that will help users identify and proactively resolve invalid position records. This will help maintain data integrity in the system.

With this enhancement, an alert is generated for positions which the maintained position cost assignment has one or more inactive cost objects. It could be that the cost object expired or is not valid anymore, then it must not be used for a position’s cost assignment. For example, if the fund or grant maintained in the position cost assignment is not active anymore, it must not be used in the position’s cost assignment record.

When running the alert, the system allows you to navigate to the Manage Data screen of the position so that the position cost assignment can be changed.

Other admin alerts available in SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central related to this process are:

  • Employee Cost Assignment Not Maintained Alert

  • Position Cost Assignment Not Maintained Alert

  • Employee with an Inactive Cost Object Maintained
